The Master of Civil Engineering Degree with a specialization in Construction and Sanitation aims to drive progress in the country by preparing professionals with the skills to plan and manage civil engenieer projects effectively. APPLICANT PROFILE

The program is intended for professionals who hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Architecture.

The applications submitted by professionals holding a degree in fields other than the aforementioned engineering disciplines will be assessed by the Academic Committee of the Master program. The committee will evaluate the professional profile and determine their admission based on the criteria of knowledge, professional, or research experience. This evaluation will be carried out in accordance with the General Regulations for Graduate Studies at ESPOL and the RPC-SO-25-No.491-2017 Sole Article of the Higher Education Council.

GRADUATE PROFILE

Graduates of Master of Civil Engineering Degree with a specialization in Construction and Sanitation will be able to:

  • Work as consultant in the construction and sanitary sectors.
  • Lead construction and sanitary projects in managerial and sub-managerial positions.
  • Perfom the evaluation of existing structures.
  • Design innovative technologies in construction and sanitation field.
  • Establish as a project manager in the public and private sectors, performing evaluation and execution activities.
  • Engage in teaching and research.

  • Deploy methodologies of project management in order to optimize the resources, time and cost.
  • Design and deploy experiments using concrete in order to optimise mixtures, improve resistance and durability, optimise costs and meet technical specifications of a Civil Engineering project.
  • Protect the water resources of the country by applying an adequate management of the water not only surface water but also groundwater, following current regulations.
  • Evaluate the environmental impact of the procedures and techniques of the edifications in order to determine the efficiency of the energy in the edifications during the construction.
  • Calculate and deploy carbon fibres as reinforment.
  • Select the most appropriate material for construction according to its exposure conditions and force by applying performance criteria.
  • Sizing and construction of drinking water systems, rain systems, and sewage water systems in order to alleviate the demand of the population.
  • Interpret the norms of control of the management systems of quality, environment, security and occupational health in order to apply them in the sustainable management of water resources.
  • Design edifications which are resistant to earthquakes in order to assure the security of the inhabitants of places of highly seismic activity.
  • Utilize theoretical and practical tools in order to perform advanced calculations in the area of construction and sanitation.
  • Diagnose pathologies of current edifications in order to deploy the most appropriate method of rehabilitation and improve the security level of the edification.
  • Evaluate the usage phase of the edifications in order to trace the effect of the external variations and the progressive destruction of the materials.
  • Elaborate studies of the life cycle of the materials, systems of construction and edifications.
  • Evaluate the technical and environmental viability of the utilisation of construction materials in engineering projects not only in the design stage also in the rehabilitation. This considering performance criteria.
  • Select the appropriate method in order to improve the geotechnical aspect of the soil and assure the stability of the edifications.
  • Propose suitable alternatives in order to improve the properties of the soil where edifications and sanitary systems are constructed.
  • Formulate probabilistic analysis of risk in order to be decision-makers in edifications and civil work.
  • Deploy lean principles as an applied tool in construction projects.
  • Introduce strategies to use construction-based tools and minimization of waste during the construction and deployment of projects of edifications and sanitary work.
  • Develop the simulation of the constructive process of a civil work in order to supervise it.
  • Unify the construction process in all the stages in order to evaluate, make decisions in real time and optimize resources and costs.
